Okija Shrine

The infamous Okija Shrine in Anambra State hit the limelight in the early 2000s because of the exposed  patronage of the shrine by some politicians. Today, Okija conjures fear in to the mind of anyone who is ever invited there by the shrine. It is here that people come to settle some of their personal disputes with the support of the gods. It is said that anyone who receives a guilty verdict turns up dead within a year and the deceased’s possessions go back to the shrine.

Osun Shrine

Osun Shrine is not as scary as the Okija Shrine, which is the reason we see a lot of visitors visiting it to appease the goddess of fertility called Oshun. There is an annual festival that attracts international and local worshipers who spend seven days in this dense forest located in Osun State. The shrine is home to a lot of artefacts.

The Long Juju Shrine of Arochukwu

A long time ago, the Long Juju Shrine of Arochukwu, located in Abia State was a fearful place to visit, because coming here as an African meant you either were a slave working here or were being shipped off from Africa. It was also a place to settle disputes and problems. There’s a maze of dark tunnels leading up to the shrine. It is a religious ground still and also a tourist site. This is where you would find the Throne of Judgment – a place where the gods decides if a person is guilty or not; the Tunnel of Disappearance and, finally, the Red River that changes its colour whenever someone is killed.

Shrine of Oya

The Shrine of Oya is located in Kwara State. Oya Akanbi is the goddess of Wind and Storm. It is narrated that Oya has a dual personality. This goddess was said to be from Ira in Kwara State. She could be malevolent or benevolent depending on the circumstance. She is a goddess that cannot be predicted, making this shrine to be feared. She is said to fight with thunderbolts.

The Girmace Shrine

The Girmace Shrine has an ambiance  that  is really spooky. The presence of the rain-forest is enough to make anyone’s heart skip, not to talk of the crocodiles that are found in its waters.
